Ride Free Area

Riding Metro Transit is free between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily in Downtown Seattle.

The Ride Free Area (RFA) extends from the north at Battery St. to S. Jackson St. on the south, and east at 6th Avenue to the waterfront on the west.

Metro routes 116, 118 & 119 and Link light rail are not included in the Ride Free area.

Central Link Light Rail is not a part of the Ride Free Area. Pay the Link light rail fare [external link] in the tunnel.

Metro does not permit bicycles inside buses for safety reasons.

UPDATE: NEW Ride Free Area (RFA) Bike Loading Policy Changes
This is a one year demonstration project.
Beginning February 7, 2009, the hours bicycles may be loaded or unloaded anywhere in the RFA will be expanded to all off-peak hours, including Saturdays, Sundays and major holidays. The only restriction for bicycle loading on surface streets in the RFA will be at each route’s first and last stop during peak hours (6 – 9 a.m. and 3 – 7 p.m.) Monday through Friday.
