Statement on Mortgage Reform and Anti-Predatory Lending Act

Years of regulatory neglect and a Washington establishment more interested in collecting campaign donations from corporations than exercising necessary oversight have left our economy in a shambles.

President Obama is showing true leadership and courage by facing this crisis head-on and putting the full power of his office into getting Americans back to work. As in trying times before, the economic engine that drives us out of this recession will be innovation and technology, which is why I support the creation of more green, sustainable jobs.

Still, jobs alone will not address the problems that got us into this mess. As a member of the House Financial Services Committee, I will push for stonger regulations of Wall Street, including reform of the credit rating agencies and better transparency and more accurate reporting of investments to help consumers make more informed choices.
