The Road to Recovery Update keeps you informed about activities leading up to National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month (Recovery Month) in September. Feel free to forward this information to friends and colleagues, include it in newsletters or listservs, or link to it from your Web site.

Tune in to the 2009 Road to Recovery Kickoff Show

On March 4, 2009, join Ivette Torres, Associate Director for Consumer Affairs, Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for the first Webcast of the 2009 Road to Recovery season. The season will continue with Webcasts on the first Wednesday of each month, April through September, and the final wrap show in November. Road to Recovery Webcasts dates and abstracts are available at http://www.recoverymonth.gov/2009/multimedia/.

Ramstad-Kennedy Annual Award Nominations Due

The Recovery Month Planning Partners have called for nominations for the second annual Ramstad-Kennedy Award for Outstanding Leadership by a Single State Authority Leader. The 2009 Award will be presented during the June 4-7, 2009 NASADAD annual meeting in Syracuse, NY. Michael Botticelli, Director of the Bureau of Substance Abuse Services at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health won last year's award. Nominations due March 31, 2009.

The 2009 banners for our 20th Anniversary: Join the Voices for Recovery: Together We Learn, Together We Heal are now posted on our Web site. Please place the banner on your Web site to link to http://www.recoverymonth.gov/ and bookmark the site on computers in your organization, school, or library to help us reach more people. If you had the previous year's Recovery Month banner on your site, please update the banner with the 20th Anniversary banners provided.

The Recovery Month Observance and Events Occur All Year Long!

The Recovery Month observance is not limited to September. Events can be held all year long to increase the education and understanding of addiction, treatment, and recovery issues. Start planning your events, proclamations, and observance and post them to http://www.recoverymonth.gov.
