Historical Federal Workforce TablesThe U. S. Office of Personnel Management is the source of official information about the Federal workforce. The following two tables represent a historical snapshot of the Federal workforce over time. Executive Branch Civilian Employment Since 1940 shows employment within the Executive Branch over time excluding uniformed military personnel, the Postal Service, and intelligence agencies. Total Government Employment Since 1962 shows employment across the Federal government and includes the Postal Service, uniformed military personnel, the Legislative Branch, and the Judicial Branch. These tables are updated annually as data becomes available. |
