Gov. Kaine Participates in United We Serve

Governor Timothy M. Kaine of Virginia participated in two United We Serve volunteer projects at the end of July including a park clean up and weatherization of a home.

On July 21, Governor Kaine joined members of the Virginia State Parks Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) to volunteer at Pocahontas State Park, highlighting community service efforts in the Commonwealth and to the summer-long United We Serve initiative. “Today was a mixture of inspiration and perspiration, and it was great, “said Governor Kaine. “The teens from YCC tackle important projects in our parks, work long, hard hours and develop an appreciation for the environment and the outdoors. The lessons they learn here will influence them for the rest of their lives.” For more information about this project please click here.

On July 29, 2009 Virginia Governor Timothy Kaine volunteered his time with the Rappahannock Area Agency on Aging and a contract crew from Community Housing Partners to help weatherize a King George County home. This was another contribution by the Governor to the President’s United We Serve initiative. The Governor was very hands on during the project, and helped crew members install a grill for a heat duct in the home’s kitchen. He also assisted crews with installing water-efficient faucets.

The project also gave the Governor a chance to learn how insulation is installed. This project contributed to a significant improvement in this home’s energy efficiency and will likely result in an estimated 25% savings for the resident. Governor Kaine’s participation will also increase awareness of the weatherization program’s benefits within the community.
