Opportunities for Attorneys and Law Students at the SEC

Experienced Attorneys
The SEC has opportunities for attorneys who are active members of the bar (any jurisdiction) and have at least one year of post-JD experience as a practicing attorney in the United States. In addition to opportunities at its Washington, DC Headquarters, the SEC hires approximately one-third of its attorneys to its network of 11 Regional Offices.


Advanced Commitment Program
Full-time, entry-level attorney positions for graduating law students, judicial clerks, and LLM candidates. Candidates are hired as law clerks and are converted to attorneys upon gaining bar membership.
Summer Honors Program
Summer positions for law students who are in their first or second year or continued education post-internship
Law Student Observer Program
Volunteer or for-credit positions offered to current law students during the academic year
Legal Careers with the SEC
The divisions and offices of the SEC offer lawyers a wide variety of work, ranging from litigation to rule-writing and from securities law to constitutional, international and administrative issues.
