Senate Passes Extension of Energy Conservation Tax Incentives

WASHINGTON, September 23 - Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a member of the Senate energy committee, applauded today's Senate passage of a bill which provides incentives for energy conservation and sustainable energy.
Sanders said, "The bad news is that this took way too long because of Republican filibusters. The good news is that we have taken a substantial step forward in providing sustainable energy for our county."
In addition to extending tax incentives for solar energy, small wind, and geothermal, the bill would establish a new credit for plug-in electric drive vehicles and the credit for passenger vehicles and light trucks ranges from $2,500 to $7,500.
This legislation passed the Senate 93-2. It now returns to the House, which earlier passed a different version of the same legislation.
