Veterans Affairs Nominee

Sen. Bernie Sanders, a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs, met Wednesday in his Capitol Hill office with President-elect Barack Obama's choice to head the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, former Army General Eric Shinseki. After the meeting, Sanders said, "I applaud the nomination and I will be strongly supporting his confirmation. I look forward to working with General Shinseki to make the necessary changes so that all of our veterans get the high quality health care and services they deserve." Veterans' committee Chairman Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii) has schedule the confirmation hearing for January 14, 2009.
