HYDROLOGY
Arizona Hydrometeorological
Summary/Flood Potential Outlook
A variety of Hydrometeorological
data can be found here, including precipitation
totals from around the state, reservoir storage
data, streamflow summaries and flood potential
outlooks. The summary produced by Phoenix is issued
about every 5-6 weeks. Products produced from
other offices, such as Flagstaff, are issued on
an irregular basis and will only be listed here
when there is current data to display.
Reservior Status for Arizona
Reservoir status infomation can
be found here; data is available for the following
rivers: Salt, Verde, Agua Fria, Gila, Bill Williams
and the Little Colorado.
Monthly Precipitation Totals for
Arizona
Monthly precipitation totals can
be found here for a number of locations in northern,
south-central and southwestern Arizona, including
locations such as Phoenix, Roosevelt, and the
Bartlett, Stewart Mountain and Horseshoe Dams.
Flash Flood Guidance
Numerical guidance indicating the amount of 1,
3 and 6 hourly rainfall needed to cause flash
flooding...for anywhere in the state of Arizona
as well as in several surrounding states. This
guidance is issued by the Salt Lake City River
Forecast Center (RFC).
River Forecast Centers
Below are links to the web sites
of the Colorado Basin River Forecast Center (CBRFC)
and the California-Nevada RFC (CNRFC).
In addition, you will find a link to a clickable
map of the nation's RFCs.
Snow
Pack Maps
Snow pack maps for the entire United States can
be found by going to the National Operational Hydrologic Remote Sensing
Center. Note that these maps are only produced
during the snow season.

and Snowpack Update can be found here, courtesy
of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
The Natural Resource Convervation Service, USDA,
is the official source for data
from SNOTEL sites and Snow Courses..
Quantitative Precipitation Forecasts
(QPF)
Numerical guidance from the Hydrometeorological
Prediction Center (HPC), indicating the amount
rainfall expected over the United States, from
day 1 all the way out through day 5. In addition,
Excessive Rainfall Outlooks are included, stating
the areas where flash flood guidance will be exceeded.
Forecast Discussions
Forecast discussions from the HPC forecasters,
describing the thinking that goes into the preparation
of the various guidance products. These are rather
hard to read, as they use significant amounts
of scientific terminology as well as abundant
contractions; these were not written for the general
public but rather as additional guidance to the
field forecasters.
Drought
Monitoring
Direct from the Climate Prediction Center, this
page will display both Palmer Drought Severity
indices as well as Crop Moisture indices for the
United States. Click the link above to see how
Arizona stacks up against the rest of the country
- drought-wise!.
Arizona
Flood Warning System
Welcome to the Arizona Flood Warning System web
site! Here you can access a wealth of hydrologic
information related to the state's various watersheds,
which include the Salt and Verde. Stage, streamflow,
and rainfall information are available for a wide
variety of gages across the state, in both tabular
and graphical formats. There is also information
on current weather conditions from a number of
ALERT and other automatic weather stations. Snow
pack data can also be obtained here. Check it
out!
State and Regional Reports
Snow and Precipitation reports for the Western
States as well as for selected river basins. These
reports include information on Snow Water Equivilant
and Total Precipitation, based on NRCS Snotel
site data. The Natural Resource Conservation Service
(NRCS), USDA, is the official source
for data from SNOTEL sites..
