Education/Training

One of the key objectives of the FASD Center is to provide education and training on FASD. To meet this objective, the FASD Center has developed online courses, educational materials, and training and technical assistance resources.

Online Courses

FASD - The Course

This course provides an overview of risk factors for fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, signs and symptoms, and prevention and treatment methods. This course is designed primarily for health, mental health, and social service providers, educators, and other professionals who work with children, adolescents, and adults with an FASD. Parents, caregivers, and family members may also find it helpful.

Curriculum for Addiction Professionals (CAP): Level 1

The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders: Curriculum for Addiction Professionals (CAP): Level 2 curriculum is a comprehensive program for professionals working in the field of substance abuse treatment. CAP 2 is designed as a training for all addiction professionals, including social workers, certified addiction counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, and others in the treatment and recovery field. Through this curriculum, addiction professionals will learn how to apply information about FASD to their work in the substance abuse treatment system.

Training

Training, TA, and Conference/Event Speaking

The FASD Center for Excellence offers training, technical assistance, and conference/event speaking, which includes presentations on FASD, and assistance to enhance the knowledge of FASD. Speakers may be available to speak on FASD at your upcoming conference/event.

** Note: Level 1 is an online course that is the prerequisite for Level 2. **

Tools for Success: Working with Youth with FASD in the Juvenile Justice System

Tools for Success is a training tool to promote strategies to identify needs and suggest interventions for youth with FASD in the juvenile justice system. The curriculum is designed to help juvenile justice professionals intervene more effectively with young offenders with FASD who are identified as likely to engage in repeated criminal activity. Its target audience is professionals working in or with the juvenile justice system, including attorneys, judges, and other social workers.

FASD-The Basics

These slides and accompanying notes are an educational program that will provide the latest and most accurate information on FASD.

Reach to Teach: Educating Elementary and Middle School Children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders

Reach to Teach is a resource for parents and teachers to use in educating elementary and middle school children with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). It provides a basic introduction to FASD and provides tools to enhance communication between parents and teachers.

Recovering Hope: Mothers Speak Out About Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (video)

"Recovering Hope" features a series of women who tell poignant and memorable stories about alcohol use during pregnancy and its effect on their children. Their experiences are supported by expert clinicians and researchers who talk about disabilities associated with FASD and evaluation and intervention services.
