SAMHSA Seclusion and Restraint


Each year approximately 150 people die as a result of seclusion and restraint practices; countless others are injured or traumatized. SAMHSA has set forth a vision to reduce and ultimately eliminate the use of seclusion and restraint practices for all age groups in institutional and community-based behavioral health care settings. More facilities and programs, across the nation, are implementing trauma-informed care and identifying and encouraging the use of alternatives to seclusion and restraint
