SAMHSA Accepting Applications for 1.5 Million in Funding of Physician Clinical Support System for the Treatment of Substance Use Disorders (PCSS) Program (7/17)

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2010 for the Physician Clinical Support System for the Treatment of Substance Use Disorders (PCSS) cooperative agreement. The purpose of this program is to enhance and further develop the current DATA Physician Clinical Support System designed to assist physicians in treating patients dependent on heroin or prescription opioid drugs with FDA approved products containing buprenorphine.

New National Study Reveals Various Hispanic American Groups Differ in the Levels and Types of Substance Abuse Treatment They Need and Receive (7/16)

Nearly 8.3 percent of all Americans of Hispanic origin ages 12 or over were classified as needing treatment in the past year for alcohol disorders according to a new national study. The study by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) also reveals that only 7.7 percent of these over 2.6 million Hispanic Americans with drinking disorders received the help they needed at a specialty treatment facility.

New Manual Provides Guidance on Addressing Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors in Substance Abuse Treatment (7/14)

Addressing Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors in Substance Abuse Treatment, a new manual which offers substance abuse counselors a four-step process for addressing suicidal thoughts and behaviors in substance abuse treatment, is now available through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

U.S. Department of Education Awards more than $32.8 Million to Promote Safe Schools, Healthy Students (7/13)

More than $32.8 million in grants have been awarded to 18 states and the District of Columbia as part of a joint effort by the U.S. Departments of Education, Health and Human Services, and Justice to support schools in creating safer and healthier learning environments.
