MESA MicroLab

Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) has the primary role of developing and designing the electronic systems that operate nuclear warheads.  A key component of those systems are radiation hardened microelectronics, devices that are designed, qualified, and fabricated in Sandia’s MESA facilities.  Into the future, Sandia National Laboratories will play a major role in advancing the state-of-the-art in microelectronics and microsystems technologies that will improve the safety, security, and reliability of the nuclear weapons stockpile. The MESA Project is a major capital construction activity that will create the facilities and equipment required to design, prototype, and fabricate qualified microelectronics and microsystem components for nuclear weapons. MESA positions the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)/National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to meet their future national security requirements.
