Hoyer Statement on Hooley Retirement

WASHINGTON – House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today regarding Rep. Darlene Hooley’s announcement that she would not seek a seventh term:

“I am saddened by Representative Hooley’s decision to not seek a seventh term.  However, I would like to congratulate her on the almost 12 years of service that she has given to her district and nation.

“Congresswoman Hooley has been an extraordinarily active Member of Congress, serving on several key committees including the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee and influential Budget Committee.

“During times of war and peace, she has been a tireless advocate for our troops, ensuring they have the training and equipment they need, and also fought to keep our promises to our veterans.

“Darlene has paid close attention to the issues that affect her constituents, and has played a leading role in promoting consumer protection and children's product safety issues, and in passing legislation to combat methamphetamine use in Oregon and around the country.

“It has been an honor to serve with Congresswoman Hooley over the past decade, and I am proud to call her not only a trusted colleague but a dear friend.  I wish her the best of luck in her new pursuits.”
