New at DHS

Budget information available online
Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s budget recommendations for the 2010-2011 biennium are available on the Minnesota Management and Budget’s Web site. The news release from the governor’s budget presentation is available on the Governor’s Office Web site. A fact sheet that summarizes proposals for human services is available on the DHS Web site.

Web site provides energy efficiency, heating assistance information
Minnesotans can get information on keeping their homes warm this winter at a new Web site, http://www.staywarm.mn.gov/. Created at the Department of Commerce with help from the Department of Human Services, other state agencies, the state’s major utilities and nonprofit organizations in the fields of energy and social services, the site includes information on energy efficiency and conservation, heating assistance programs, winter safety tips, and links to local, state and national energy Web sites.

Campaign aims to curb teen drinking through research about peers
A new campaign that highlights the difference between reality and perception about teen drinking is being launched in communities throughout Minnesota. The research based-campaign, called Most of Us®, is funded by the Minnesota Department of Human Services. More information is available in a news release about the campaign.

Health reform information available on new Web site
A newly launched Web site — www.health.state.mn.us/healthreform — provides information on Minnesota's 2008 health care reform initiative. The site, created by the Minnesota Department of Health, has background on key components of the reform package signed into law by Gov. Tim Pawlenty in May. They include a Statewide Health Improvement Program, health care homes, payment reform and quality improvement, e-health measures and provisions to increase access to health care insurance and affordability. More information is in a health reform fact sheet and an implementation timeline prepared by the Minnesota House of Representatives Research Department.

Department of Human Services identifies priorities
The Minnesota Department of Human Services has identified six priorities on the following topics: at-risk adults; at-risk children; reducing disparities; health care; chemical and mental health; and home and community-based services. The priorities will guide department planning efforts for the next two years. A priorities summary sheet and overview of strategies are available.
