Substance Abuse Team Ministries
Provide training and support to help faith communities develop and maintain substance abuse ministries. Reviving the Human Spirit offers training that includes leadership training, team training, annual skills training, and technical assistance, using the Faith Partners' model. For the Hispanic Community
Maritza Dyer of Central Parkway Church of God attended the Faith Leader Academy. When a Hispanic ministry began at her church three years ago, she used what she had learned from Faith Leader Academy and developed a Thursday night meeting. This meeting combines education on Substance Abuse along with the 12 steps for members of the Hispanic congregation and others in the community. Maritza says that Hispanics are often more open to listening to and talking about addictions with someone who speaks Spanish and understands their culture, rather than talking with their pastor about these issues. She says her program compliments Pastor Ron Martin's "Helping Hands" addictions ministry that is open to the general congregation and the public. With the growing number of Hispanics in Cincinnati, she sees a real need for additional Spanish programs of prevention and recovery.
