September 8, 2006

Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn says give credit to the army of bloggers and concerned citizens for the Senate approval of his bill to create an Internet database to monitor federal spending.

"By helping to lift the veil of secrecy in Washington, this database will help make us better legislators, reporters better journalists and voters more active citizens," he said in a press release from his Washington office.

His comments followed Senate approval of the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act co-authored along with Illinois Democratic Senator Barack Obama.

Coburn contends every American has the right to know how their government spends their money and this act will allow the tracking a a trillion dollars in federal grants, contracts, earmarks and loans.

It essentially will create a Google-like search engine and database.
