CDC's Activities with Business Partners

A womanThe CDC Business Sector partners with a variety of business organizations and coalitions to protect and promote the public's health. Through enhanced business partner engagement and communication, CDC is able to advance its mission by increasing the dissemination, reach and impact of CDC's evidence-based health products and resources. Some recent activities with business partners are highlighted below.

Chick-Fil-A*
CDC and Chick-fil-A collaborate on handwashing, surface cleaning and food safety initiatives.

Clean Hands Coalition*
The Clean Hands Coalition (CHC), facilitated by CDC, is a unified alliance of public and private partners working together to create and support coordinated, sustained initiatives to significantly improve health and save lives through clean hands. CHC sponsors International Clean Hands Week during the third week of each September.

Partnership for Food Safety Education*
The Partnership for Food Safety Education (PFSE) is a not-for-profit organization that unites industry associations; professional societies in food science, nutrition and health; consumer groups; and the U.S. government, to educate the public about safe food handling. CDC has been a member of PFSE since its inception in 1997. PFSE is the creator and steward of the Fight BAC!®* and Be Food Safe™* campaigns.

Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing*
The Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing (PPPHW) is a global initiative to promote handwashing with soap to reduce diarrhea, a major cause of child mortality in many countries today. The PPPHW partners work together to sponsor Global Handwashing Day on October 15 of each year. CDC is a collaborator on Global Handwashing Day efforts.

Reckitt Benckiser *
Reckitt Benckiser Inc., and its affiliate companies are for-profit entities that market and distribute personal- and home-cleaning products in 180 countries. CDC and Reckitt-Benckiser have collaborated on the Ounce of Prevention* campaign since 1997.

The Soap and Detergent Association*
The Soap and Detergent Association (SDA) is the non-profit trade association representing manufacturers of household, industrial- and institutional-cleaning products. SDA members produce more than 90 percent of the cleaning products marketed in the United States. CDC and SDA collaborate on the Healthy Schools, Healthy People—It's a SNAP* program (launched in 2001) and on The CLEAN Award*, piloted in 2009.

Target *
Target has served on the CDC Advisory Committee to the Director, is on the Board of the Alliance to Make US Healthiest* and has recently started REDHealth, an employee health and wellness magazine that focuses on topics such as living well, fitness and exercise, healthy eating and healthy mind. CDC provides input on health topics for outreach materials to its customers and employees.

Wal-Mart*
Wal-Mart has served on the CDC Advisory Committee to the Director and is a member of the Alliance to Make US Healthiest*. Along with CDC, Wal-Mart participates in Dossia*, a collaborative initiative working to develop personally controlled health records.
