Ashleigh hits the airwaves

August 12th, 2009 by Press Staff

In case you haven’t heard Ashleigh’s story yet, she became the target of smear attacks by liberal blogs after posing in this picture with Jack.

When the attacks started getting personal, we gave Ashleigh a chance to respond on this blog and it was picked up on RedState.  Jack also weighed in with this note.

Today, Ashleigh hit the airwaves and was featured on 105.9’s The Morning Drive with Frank Barnas.  The folks at 105.9 have posted the interview in two parts online.  To view part one, click here.  For part two, click here.

Keep it up, Ashleigh!

Nightmares of socialized medicine

August 12th, 2009 by Press Staff

Earlier this week, the Vancouver Sun reported that the Canadian province’s socialized medical authority is considering cutting 6,250 surgeries currently planned - that includes 10% of all medically necessary surgeries this year!

Flashback to a recent letter to the editor by Tom Sawyer in Savannah who’s seen first hand Canadians fleeing to America to seek medical care.

If ObamaCare passes, where will Americans go?

More fact checking on the President’s town hall meeting

August 12th, 2009 by Press Staff

From MSNBC’s First Read:

CLAIM: “I have not said that I was a single-payer supporter because, frankly, we historically have had an employer-based system in this country with private insurers, and for us to transition to a system like that I believe would be too disruptive.”

FACT: Obama did advocate a single-payer system back in 2003…

CLAIM: “If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan.”

FACT: [T]here is nothing in any bill moving through Congress that would enforce that. (In fact, it’s surprising the White House continues to push this line — there is NO way the government can guarantee that a business won’t change health care providers. They just can’t.)

CLAIM: “We have the AARP on board because they know this is a good deal for our seniors.”

FACT: But AARP put out a statement yesterday saying that it hasn’t officially endorsed any of the bills moving through Congress…

ICYMI: The Whole Foods Alternative to ObamaCare

August 12th, 2009 by Press Staff

In case you missed it, Whole Foods CEO John Mackey penned this excellent opinion piece in today’s Wall Street Journal.

The Whole Foods Alternative to ObamaCare
Eight things we can do to improve health care without adding to the deficit.

BY JOHN MACKEY

“The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out
of other people’s money.”

—Margaret Thatcher

With a projected $1.8 trillion deficit for 2009, several trillions more in deficits projected over the next decade, and with both Medicare and Social Security entitlement spending about to ratchet up several notches over the next 15 years as Baby Boomers become eligible for both, we are rapidly running out of other people’s money. These deficits are simply not sustainable. They are either going to result in unprecedented new taxes and inflation, or they will bankrupt us.

While we clearly need health-care reform, the last thing our country needs is a massive new health-care entitlement that will create hundreds of billions of dollars of new unfunded deficits and move us much closer to a government takeover of our health-care system. Instead, we should be trying to achieve reforms by moving in the opposite direction—toward less government control and more individual empowerment. Here are eight reforms that would greatly lower the cost of health care for everyone:

Say what?

August 11th, 2009 by Spokesblogger

Just moments ago, responding to a questioner in Portsmouth, New Hampshire who expressed concern about the health care plan destroying the private insurance market, leading to only a government option, President Obama said, “I have not said that I was a single payer supporter.”

Not said that, like, today? In the last week?

The President expressed quite a different point of view just a few years back when he said “I happen to be a proponent of a single payer universal health care plan.”

The uncut video can be found here.

SURVEY SAYS: Support for Obamacare falls to new low

August 11th, 2009 by Spokesblogger

Rasmussen Reports is out with a new survey today showing support for Obamacare has fallen to a new low.

Despite claims that opposition at town hall meetings is “un-American” and manufactured by the right, the survey shows that a 62% of independents oppose the plan, with 51% of indepdendents strongly opposing the plan.

Further, 51% of Americans believe the quality of health care will get worse under Obamacare  and costs will go up.

White House “Reality Check” Website on Health Care Full of Errors, Misstatements, Falsehoods

August 11th, 2009 by Press Staff

New Website Recycles Democrats’ Debunked Claims on Health Care, Dismisses Americans’ Concerns About Health Care as ‘Laughable’

Facing mounting criticism from the American people over President Obama’s proposed trillion-dollar government takeover of health care, the White House has responded this morning by launching a “reality check” website, featuring videos and preloaded messages that purportedly debunk “health care myths.” In reality, the website simply recycles the same false claims that the Administration and its allies in Congress have been pedaling for weeks.

After no fewer than five polls released at the end of July showed increasing, if not outright, opposition to government-run health care, and with Members of Congress taking heat from constituents during the August district work period, it’s understandable that the White House is getting nervous about the prospects for its health care experiment.

The following are some of the discredited claims the Administration’s new website repeats:

If he’s not good enough for back home, send him to Washington…

A teachable moment

August 10th, 2009 by Jack

Last week after a health care town meeting in Valdosta, Georgia a Valdosta State University student, Ashleigh Kenny, gave me a tee shirt. The front said, “R.I.P. The U.S. Constitution” the back has a Ronald Reagan quote, “In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problems, government is the problem”.

Upon posting this picture, critical blogs leaped into action. Not just attacking the message but me - no surprise there – and soon they moved on to 21 year old Ashleigh.

The first blogger made a point - isn’t it overly dramatic to suggest the Constitution is under attack? And should I, as loco parentis, encourage this sort of student activism?

Before I could respond others joined in and Ashleigh moved from co-ed to “prostitute.”  It’s amazing how perceptive left-wingers can be just from one photo.

Survey says…Americans fear government more than insurance companies

August 10th, 2009 by Spokesblogger

Rasmussen Reports is out today with a new survey showing that 51% of Americans fear the federal government more than private insurance companies.

While 41% believe the opposite, only 25% agree with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that health insurance companies are villains.

Other findings:

  • 53% of Americans who have insurance fear the government more
  • Adults under 30 - the people who will be stuck with Obamacare - fear the government more
  • Independents, by a 53% margin, fear the government more than insurance companies
  • The majority of those who attend church at least once a month fear the government more

As for town hall protestors, 49% believe they are expressing the views of their neighbors while just 37% agree with Obama that they’re manufactured.

Finally, most voters believe middle class tax cuts are more important than new spending on health care.

CONSTITUENT RESPONDS: R.I.P. Constitution

August 7th, 2009 by District Staff

After this picture was posted on Jack’s Flickr account, some liberal blogs have taken to personally attacking the constituent who appears with Jack.  Ashleigh, a student a Valdosta State University, provided this response to her detractors:

I realize that some controversy has resulted from the blog posting a picture of Congressman Kingston and me, where I presented him a t-shirt that said “R.I.P. The U.S. Constitution”

What those who seek to smear me don’t know, or take the time to find out, is that the back of the shirt is adorned with the words of President Ronald Reagan: “In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem.”

Perhaps one’s perception of the shirt depends on his or her perception of our Constitution. Personally, I believe it is a fundamental document that was written to insure that the government never became greater than the people. When I look at today’s society, the government’s control seems to increasingly outweigh the people’s.  I cannot help but feel that the Constitution has been theoretically buried.  This design isn’t meant to point fingers, it’s meant to stir an awareness of what we are losing. It’s about the power of the government increasing, while the power of the people decreases.

This shirt is not meant to stir debate regarding which administration did the most to slaughter our Constitution. While we cannot change the past, we do have the present in our hands, right now. This is where change begins.

I must say, in a time where political scandal consists of perjury, adultery, embezzlement…etc., to be caught standing next to a college kid accepting a pro-liberty t-shirt really doesn’t sound so bad.  Maybe that’s just me
