E-Licensing Update

Informal Meeting at MLA ‘09
We will host an informal meeting about e-licensing at MLA ’09 for network members in the NN/LM Pacific Southwest Region. Rick Burke, Executive Director of SCELC, will be at this meeting to greet you and learn about your interests. We invite you to come and meet Rick, become acquainted, ask questions, and give suggestions. The meeting will take place on Monday, May 25, from 2 pm – 3 pm in the Honolulu Convention Center room 308B. You will find this meeting listed in the Official Program and the Online Itinerary Builder as “NN/LM PSR E-Licensing Collaborative with SCELC”. Do look for this and attend this meeting!
Exhibits Hall at MLA ‘09
In addition to attending the informal meeting, Rick will be visiting the vendors in the exhibit hall at MLA to explore consortial licensing for our members. If you see Rick in the exhibit hall, feel free to introduce yourself and let him know your interests. Rick will concentrate his efforts on the top 15 vendors identified by our E-Licensing Committee: American Academy of Family Physicians, American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, EBSCO, Elsevier, McGraw-Hill, Nature, New England Journal of Medicine, Ovid, Sage, Springer, Thomson Healthcare, Wiley-Blackwell, and Up-to-Date (now owned by Ovid) but will of course be looking for new vendors as well. The exhibits hall will be open during the Welcome Reception on Saturday, May 16. The exhibit hall will be open Sunday, May 17 (11am – 3:30pm); Monday, May 18 (9am – noon, 1:15pm – 3pm); and Tuesday, May 19 (8:30am – noon).
SCELC Vendor Day 2009
Several NN/LM PSR members attended SCELC’s Vendor Day on March 9, 2009. This was the 12th year that SCELC has offered vendor day, and this year Vendor Day included additional health sciences vendors because of SCELC’s collaboration with NN/LM PSR. Forty-four vendors provided forty-minute long presentations about new or updated products. Participating vendors of greatest interest to health sciences libraries included the American Psychological Association, Annual Reviews, Bowker, Ebrary, EBSCO Information Services, Elsevier, Emerald Group, Harrassowitz, Nature Publishing Group, OCLC, Ovid, SAGE Publications, Serials Solutions, Springer, STAT!Ref, SWETS, Taylor and Francis and Wiley-Blackwell. This was a great opportunity to learn about new product features and to chat with vendors. A complete listing of vendors is included in the Vendor Day 2009 web page.
MLGSCA Technology Symposium 2009
One of the contributed papers at the MLGSCA technology symposium, held at Cerritos Public Library on March 6, 2009, was “Creating a new partnership for consortial licensing: the NN/LM PSR – SCELC experience”. Presented by Julie Kwan, along with Rick Burke and James Wiser of SCELC, the presentation described how the consortium came about and the roles that the RML and SCELC both play in this partnership.
