CARTER PRESIDENTIAL MUSEUM CLOSES FOR RE-DESIGN. RE-OPENING ON OCTOBER 1, 2009 - The Jimmy Carter Presidential Museum closed its doors Sunday, April 26, 2009 in preparation for a $10 million redesign of the museum. Carter Library director Jay Hakes and the head of the redesign project, Dan Lee were on hand as security guard Mica Harlon closed the doors to the public. “We have been working on the museum redesign for a long time,” Hakes said. “Its exciting to be getting ready to start the actual work.” The Museum will reopen on Oct. 1, 2009, Carter’s 85th birthday.
[ Museum Closes for Re-design ]RESEARCH ROOM SCHEDULE AT CARTER LIBRARY DURING RENOVATION - The Carter Presidential Library is undergoing a major renovation to enhance its public facilities. Beginning May 9 through August 10, services to researchers will be limited due to construction in the Research Room. While most materials will continue to be available, the number of researchers that can be accommodated at a single time will be limited. All researchers planning a trip to the Carter Library during this period are strongly urged to make reservations by contacting David Stanhope at (404)865-7128 or email him at: david.stanhope@nara.gov.
