December 8, 2008 ROCKEFELLER CONGRATULATES NICHOLAS COUNTY WILDERNESS BATTALION ON BEING SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN INAUGURATION PARADEWashington, D.C. – Senator Jay Rockefeller today congratulated the Nicholas County Army JROTC’s Wilderness Battalion on being chosen to participate in the Inauguration Parade at President-elect Barack Obama’s swearing-in ceremony on January 20 in Washington, D.C. “This will be an absolutely historic inauguration, and it’s just wonderful that the Wilderness Battalion will be representing Nicholas County and our entire state during the parade,” Rockefeller said. “It will be a proud moment for the battalion members and their families. I’d like to congratulate each of them on this tremendous honor, which is a signal of their hard work and stellar reputation.” The JROTC program started in 1985 and the Wilderness Battalion, comprised of cadets from both Nicholas County High School and Richwood High School, first started in 2003. The battalion director is Lieutenant Colonel Debra Tompkins. ###
