December 3, 2008 ROCKEFELLER REACTS TO PRESIDENT-ELECT'S NOMINATION OF GOVERNOR BILL RICHARDSON TO BE U.S. SECRETARY OF COMMERCEWashington, DC – Senator Jay Rockefeller today issued the following statement regarding President-Elect Obama’s nomination of New Mexico Governor, Bill Richardson, to be the nation’s 36th Secretary of Commerce. “Governor Richardson is an excellent choice for Secretary of Commerce. I know he will call upon his experiences as a legislator, an executive and a diplomat to effectively carry out the vision of the President-Elect to rebuild our economy from the ground up. I look forward to working with Secretary-Designee Richardson to create good-paying jobs and promote economic development; restore our manufacturing sector; increase our competitive edge; encourage foreign investment in our highly productive workforce; and, promote American goods and services around the world. There is much work to do and I can’t wait to tackle the challenges ahead immediately – there is not a moment to waste.” ###
