ROCKEFELLER CELEBRATES GE'S MEDICAL EQUIPMENT DONATION AT WELCH COMMUNITY HOSPITAL

~Senator worked with GE Healthcare to secure critical equipment for hospital~

Washington, D.C. – Senator Jay Rockefeller today joined Mark Vachon, President and CEO of GE Healthcare Americas; Walt Garrett, CEO of Welch Community Hospital; local officials; and members of the hospital staff and local community for the official dedication of medical equipment donated to the hospital by GE.  Rockefeller worked with GE officials to make this significant donation – which includes various types of medical equipment – possible.

“The medical equipment that GE has donated is already making an enormous difference,” Rockefeller said. “The fetal monitors and ultrasound machines are helping Welch provide top-notch care to pregnant women and their newborn babies.  The digital mammography machine means that Welch now has the equipment necessary to detect breast cancer early.  And the updated x-ray machine and EKG monitor are the types of life-saving technology that every hospital should have to provide the most comprehensive patient care possible.”

Two years ago, Rockefeller met with GE’s former CEO, Joe Hogan, who expressed that he wanted to make a real difference in communities across the country.  Rockefeller told him there was no other place where GE could make a bigger difference than Welch. Together with Rockefeller’s office, GE officials visited Welch Community Hospital last year to see its medical equipment needs first-hand – and at his urging, the company made a commitment to meet many of the hospital’s most pressing equipment needs.

“The people of this community deserve nothing less than the best.  I know they get the best attention and care from the staff here – that’s evident as soon as you walk through the doors,” Rockefeller said. “Now, thanks to GE’s generosity, we’re making sure those dedicated doctors, nurses and workers have the cutting edge tools to take care of their patients.  And we’re seeing first-hand the truly transformative power of health care in rural communities.”
