Hoyer Statement on Iranian President's Latest Outrageous Outburst

WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today regarding anti-Israel comments by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, including a comment that the death of six millions Jews in the Holocaust is a “myth” fabricated by the West:

 “The latest verbal outburst by the Iranian President against the Jewish people and the State of Israel must be swiftly and strongly condemned by all civilized people.

 “President Ahmadinejad’s latest comment – that the Holocaust in which 6 million Jews were murdered by the Nazis is a ‘myth’ fabricated by the West – simply begs the question: What is going through this man’s mind?  And, how can he embrace such a patently false view of one of the darkest chapters in human history?

 “These anti-Semitic comments are not simply outrageous, they have no basis in fact and are truly toxic.  What is most disturbing is that President Ahmadinejad, in the course of three months, has stated that Israel should be ‘wiped off the map,’ that Europe should host Israel on its soil, and now that the Holocaust is ‘myth.’

 “These comments are alarming and must be repudiated in the strongest possible terms.”
