Mark A. Treichel is the Regional Director of the Region I – Albany office. As Regional
Director, Treichel is responsible for the oversight of the chartering program for
federal credit unions and the examination and supervision programs for all federally
insured credit unions in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire,
New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
Treichel joined NCUA as an examiner in 1986. He has also served as a problem case
officer, supervisory examiner, director of special actions and insurance, acting
director of risk management in the Office of Examination and Insurance, associate
regional director of operations and deputy executive director. He was named to his
current position in April 2003.
Treichel holds an accounting degree from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
ARDP - Elizabeth A. Whitehead
Elizabeth A. Whitehead is the Associate Regional Director of Programs in Region
I. She is responsible for managing Region I’s field program, which includes nearly
100 examiners and field supervisors in the Northeast and Michigan.
Elizabeth began her career as an examiner in Pittsfield, Massachusetts in March
of 1988. In Region I, she held positions as a principal examiner in Hartford, CT,
Newburgh, NY and Albany, NY, supervision analyst in Albany, NY, supervisory examiner
in New York City/Long Island. Prior to her current position she was Acting Associate
Regional Director of Operations in the Region III office in Atlanta, Georgia. Elizabeth
was the first NCUA graduate of the Office of Personnel and Management’s Women Executive
Leadership Program in 1993.
Prior to joining NCUA, Elizabeth was CEO of Hurlbut Employees Federal Credit Union
and branch manager of Berkshire Federal Credit Union. She was very active in the
credit union community and local league.
Elizabeth is a graduate of Westfield State College in Westfield, Massachusetts with
a BS degree in accounting. She is married and has one son.
