Hoyer Applauds President-Elect Obama's Selection of Rep. Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff
WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) today released the following statement on President-Elect Obama's decision to make Rep. Rahm Emanuel White House Chief of Staff:
“President-elect Obama’s selection of Rahm Emanuel as White House Chief of Staff shows a strong commitment to the mandate for change given by voters on Tuesday. I have no doubt that Congressman Emanuel will be as effective in helping to take America in a new direction as he has been in every other role he has assumed. He brings to the White House his keen intelligence, a close relationship with the President-elect and Members of Congress, and an understanding of both policy and the legislative process.
“Here in the House of Representatives, Congressman Emanuel will be sorely missed. His taking of this position shows both personal and professional sacrifice for the greater good. The majority he helped build is ready to work with our next President to renew our economy, pave the way for 21st-century energy technology, expand access to healthcare, and keep its promise of change to the American people.”
