6/25/2009 - Tracking Mercury from Ore to Organism
Nearly 300 abandoned mercury mines and prospects are found in the California Coast Range. On June 25, USGS lead scientist for the Western Ecological Research Center Tom Suchanek participated in the monthly USGS Evening Public Lecture Series in Menlo Park, CA by presenting a lecture on "Tracking Mercury from Ore to Organism", discussing mercury cycling and bioaccumulation in Clear Lake.  Video archive of lecture: http://online.wr.usgs.gov/calendar/2009/jun09.html

6/16/2009 - FORT Scientist "On Loan" to NEON
For many years, USGS Research Ecologist Tom Stohlgren has been at the forefront of developing and implementing ways of collecting, sharing, and relating information on non-native invasive species that plague native ecosystems and challenge public land managers in the United States. Lately, a new national infrastructure for monitoring ecological systems and trends has been taking advantage of his expertise.
