Energizer Battery Achieves OSHA Recognition
Ceremony to be held Dec. 2 in Maryville, Mo.

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Energizer Battery has earned membership in the prestigious "Star" Voluntary Protection Program of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration. A recognition ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 2.

"Energizer Battery has exhibited excellence in effective safety and health management at its Maryville facility," said Kansas City OSHA Regional Administrator Charles E. Adkins, CIH. "Their outstanding efforts have included an impressive machine guarding program, excellent general housekeeping and strong management commitment to safety and health."

The facility employs 798 workers who manufacture and package alkaline batteries. Companies that have been accepted into the Voluntary Protection Program represent more than 200 industries.

The VPP recognizes and promotes effective workplace safety and health management. Companies in the Voluntary Protection Program achieve average injury rates 50 percent lower than other companies in their industry. From coast to coast, approximately 1,100 work sites participate in the program.

Information kits about the VPP application and approval process are available from the VPP Manager at the OSHA regional office in Kansas City, Mo., at (816) 426 5861.

The role of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health.
