A data assimilation took place on May 4 in Utah and the central to northern U.S. Rockies and the southern Canadian Rockies. Two to 2 1/2 inches of water was added at higher elevations in Idaho and northwestern Wyoming due to under-modeled snowfall and over-modeled snowmelt. Similar amounts of water were added to the higher elevations of the upper Columbia River basin. In Utah and the Absaroka and Wind River ranges of Wyoming, undersimulation of snowmelt necessitated the addition of an inch of water.
