Schroeder Cherry Reappointed as Counselor to the Director

Washington, DC--Dr. Anne-Imelda M. Radice, Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, announced today that Dr. Schroeder Cherry has been reappointed as Counselor to the Director.

“Dr. Cherry’s thirty-plus years in the museum field span a broad range of areas with primary focus on making museum resources accessible to the public,” noted Dr. Radice. “As Counselor to the Director, he is cultivating relationships with entities that have previously had little contact with IMLS.”

In recent years the agency’s programs and services have grown substantially. Dr. Cherry’s role is essential to ensuring that the Institute reaches communities that are too often underserved. He acts as liaison to community, museum, and library groups; provides advice on agency communications; and is integral to helping shape future directions for the agency.

Prior to his appointment as Counselor, Dr. Cherry served a as IMLS Deputy Director, heading up the Office of Museum Services.

“I am so pleased to be able to keep Schroeder Cherry as part of our senior leadership team,” continued Radice. “The relationships he has built over the years and his keen insights are very much needed at the Institute.”

Upon accepting the offer of reappointment, Dr. Cherry noted, “It is an honor to work with Anne Radice. She wants the Institute to be a champion for all museums and libraries, the large and established as well as the small and medium-sized local institutions that are often the spirit of their communities. I look forward to my continued association with the Institute of Museum and Library Services.”
