Description: A shrub occurring in open woodlands and prairies as well as along rivers and streams in the eastern portion of our region. The white cotton-like pappus of the fruit is very conspicuous in the fall and is distributed by wind. Growth form lends it some ornamental value. Potentially toxic to livestock.
