Key Literacy Issues
The Institute seeks to strengthen literacy across the lifespan, including early childhood. Research plays a central role in this work. The Institute:
- Locates scientifically based research findings that help answer essential questions about early childhood literacy;
- Communicates the findings to educators, families, and caregivers in plain language in publications such as its Shining Stars series for toddlers and preschoolers and A Child Becomes A Reader: Birth – Preschool
- Examines professional development practices that support early childhood literacy instruction
- Identifies topics to be studied in future research
