caGrid 0.5

The cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid, or caBIG™, is a voluntary virtual informatics infrastructure that connects data, research tools, scientists, and organizations to leverage their combined strengths and expertise in an open environment with common standards and shared tools. The current test bed architecture of caBIG™, is dubbed caGrid. The software embodiment and corresponding documentation of this architecture constitute the caGrid 0.5 release.

The caGrid 0.5 team is comprised of members from the following organizations:

  • Ohio State University - Biomedical Informatics Department
(Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital & Richard J. Solove Research Institute)
  • Science Application International Corporation (SAIC)
  • Panther Informatics
  • Oracle Corporation
  • Terrapin Systems
  • Booz Allen Hamilton
  • National Cancer Institute Center for Bioinformatics (NCICB)

caGrid 0.5 is the first test-bed release of the grid infrastructure to support the caBIG™ community. The caGrid 0.5 software release contains tools for creating and deploying caBIG™-compliant grid services to the caGrid 0.5 infrastructure. The software infrastructure is designed to satisfy the use case requirements from the various caBIG™ Domain Workspaces. caGrid 0.5 is providing the necessary infrastructure for caBIG™ applications to leverage the following grid infrastructure capabilities:

    • Indexing and Registry Services
    • Metadata Management
    • Common Data Elements
    • Controlled Vocabulary Semantics
    • XML Schema Management
    • Security Services
    • Discovery and Invocation
    • Data Service Toolkit
    • Analytical Service Toolkit

caGrid leverages the following existing technologies:

As part of the caGrid 0.5 test bed release, there are six service nodes that are up and running they are:

  • caArray - Microarray Data Services - Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Research Center at Georgetown University
  • caArray - Microarray Data Services - NCICB
  • rProteomics - Proteomics Analytical Services - Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center
  • PIR - Protein Information Resource - Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Research Center at Georgetown Univeristy
  • caTIES - Cancer Text Information Extraction System - University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
  • caBIO - Cancer Bioinformatic Data Service - NCICB

Additional Service Nodes will be added.
