On the Issues
Small Business
One of the best ways for Congress to help speed the economic recovery
this country so desperately needs is to invest in the engines of
our economy, America’s small businesses. Small businesses have
been the number one creator of jobs in America for many years now.
As a member of the Appropriations committee, I helped lead the fight
against the Bush Administration's effort to zero out the SBA’s flagship
7(a) lending program, which has traditionally supplied over 30% of
all small business loans in this country.
I have also fought to save the SBA Microloan program,
which is a key program for minority and very small business
owners. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy,
and I believe we should be doing all we can to ensure
that the SBA is fully funded and that our small businesses
receive the support they need.
