Hoyer Praises Committee Action on ADA Amendments Act

WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 was passed by the House Judiciary Committee by a vote of 37-0 and by the House Education and Labor Committee by a vote of 43-1:

“I applaud the Committees on Judiciary and Education and Labor for reporting H.R. 3195, the ADA Amendments of 2008, in a strong bipartisan manner.

“The ability of literally millions of disabled Americans to pursue active, productive lives and have meaningful employment will improve if this measure becomes law.  To that end, it is my plan to schedule the bill for House consideration very soon.

“Education and Labor Committee Chairman George Miller and Ranking Member Buck McKeon, and Judiciary Chairman John Conyers and Ranking Member Lamar Smith, demonstrated extraordinary leadership in advancing the bill.  I also want to thank Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, former chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, for contributing so much to the effort.”
