Hoyer Statement on Rosh Hashanah

Washington, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in recognition of the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah:

“Yesterday at sundown was the beginning of one of the year’s most important holidays to those of the Jewish faith – the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, which marks the Jewish New Year.  Rosh Hashanah is a time for introspection and making positive changes in the upcoming New Year.

“American Jews and the Democratic Party have close ties, sharing a common focus on community, education, civil and human rights, and security for Israel.  I look forward to continuing to nurture this friendship and strive towards our common goals in the New Year.  Together this year, I believe we can help promote Israel’s security following disengagement and through the peace process.

“I wish my friends in the Jewish community a peaceful and joyous New Year.”
