Re: Freedom of Information Act - Appeal (Your January 8, 1993, Letter)

Dear Mr. Horn:

We received your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) appeal on January 11, 1993. In letter dated December 21, 1992, your associate, Nora Abdeslem, submitted a FOIA request for the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) telephone directory. In a letter dated January 5, 1993, Benny R. Henson, Freedom of Information Officer, noted that the information was being provided but that the home addresses and telephone numbers of NCUA's examiner staff were being withheld pursuant to 5 U.S.C. ~552(b)(6). In addition, the office telephone numbers of Washington Office employees were withheld. You have appealed the withholding of those numbers.

We have determined that the office telephone numbers should be released and have enclosed them herewith. We have withheld information relating to NCUA's internal phone mail system under Exemption 2 of the FOIA, 5 U.S.C. ~552(b)(2), as there is no genuine and significant public interest in its disclosure. We note that the information withheld from the previously-released material concerning the regional offices was also related to the internal phone mail system.

Sincerely,

Robert M. Fenner
General Counsel
