Associate Director for
Health Disparities, NCHHSTP
The Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center
for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB
Prevention (NCHHSTP) is recruiting a Health
Scientist (GS-601-15) or Medical Officer
(GS-602-15) to serve as Associate Director
for Health Disparities.
NCHHSTP maximizes public health and safety
nationally and internationally through the
elimination, prevention, and control of disease,
disability, and death caused by HIV/AIDS,
non-HIV retroviruses, viral hepatitis, other
STDs, TB, and non-TB mycobacteria. The position
serves as Associate Director for Health
Disparities responsible for providing
consultation on scientific and technical issues,
formulating and developing program policy and
guidance, planning strategies to manage and
deliver programs, providing operational
oversight, chairing the diversity program,
supervising and managing staff and serves as a
member of the Center’s senior staff.
The selected individual will:
- Serve as a nationally
and internationally recognized expert
relating to the Center's infectious disease
activities within disproportionately
affected populations, by providing
scientific advice and consultation on
solutions to critical problems which
require outstanding creativity in generating
new hypotheses, approaches and standards to
be used centerwide, agencywide or
nationwide by others.
- Serve as an authority
on the health disparities-related program projects and issues, including
coordination of the agency's activities with
CDC, HHS, and other federal agencies, state
and local health departments, governmental
organizations and the public at large.
- Formulate policies
and plans and coordinate centerwide
activities that address reducing health
disparities in HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis,
STDs, and TB in racial and ethnic
minorities, incarcerated populations, women
and other disproportionately affected
populations, including identifying program
and research priorities.
- Plan science-based
strategies for the management and delivery
of services via multi-disciplinary programs
for racial and ethnic minorities,
incarcerated populations, women and other
disproportionately affected populations.

Director, Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC), National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral
Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP),
Coordinating Center for Infectious Diseases
(CCID) is recruiting a Health Scientist
(GS-601-15) or Medical Officer (GS-602-15) to
serve as the Director of the Division of
HIV/AIDS Prevention. Candidates must possess
a Ph.D. or other earned doctorate in one or more
of the following: disease prevention or related
health sciences, public health, epidemiology,
social or behavioral science; or a Doctorate of
Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy.
As a nationally and internationally known expert
in the field of HIV/AIDS prevention, the
incumbent will develop and maintain
relationships among a variety of national and
international public health, medical, and
environmental organizations, other government
agencies, academic institutions, and state and
local health departments; as well as coordinate
research activities, legislative proposals,
regulations, policies, program issues, and
resources.
The selected individual will:
- Manage the operations of the division, with
primary responsibility for providing leadership,
coordination, management, and research guidance
to staff.
- Serve as a member of the Center management
team, and participate in and advise on program
planning and policy formulation for the Center.
- Advise the Center Director, other members of
CDC leadership, and other governmental and
non-governmental agencies and departments
regarding policy, research, and programmatic
directions of the agency as they relate to HIV
and AIDS prevention research.
- Direct and manage a large and complex public
health research organization, including
establishing strategic plans and policies,
developing and presenting budgets, evaluating
program accomplishments, and building and
maintaining a diverse staff.
- Mobilize, collaborate and lead across and
within organizational boundaries to promote HIV
prevention, accelerate health impact and enhance
health protection for those affected with HIV.
- Lead and manage in a scientific environment.
