Internships
Congressional internships with Rep. Hare are available in Washington DC and his four district offices (Moline, Galesburg, Decatur, Carlinville). Interested students should download an application and fax it to the appropriate office along with:
1) Cover Letter describing why you would like to be a Congressional intern
2) Résumé
3) List of References
4) Minimum 1-page writing sample
Interns are extremely helpful and provide assistance to the staff, with normal hours being 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, 3 to 4 days per week.
Students interested in interning with Congressman Hare’s Washington, DC office can expect to be asked to help with general administrative office tasks, help organize incoming constituent mail, assist with press and communications, draft responses to certain documents, help provide Capitol tours to visitors, and attend informational briefings when the staff is not available.
The spring semester begins around mid-January and lasts through mid-May. The fall semester begins around mid-August and lasts through mid-December. The summer time is generally the most competitive internships on Capitol Hill. The summer semester is from the end of May until the beginning of August.
All students, regardless of school location, are encouraged to apply. Students with Illinois ties are preferred, but not required.
