Established: By Maj. Gen. John R. Brooke, December 28, 1898, in accordance with Presidential order published as General Order 184, Headquarters of the Army, December 13, 1898.
Predecessor Agencies: Spanish colonial administration, formally terminated January 1, 1899.
Functions: Administered civil government of Cuba to May 20, 1902. As the Late Military Government of Cuba, Washington, DC, June 1902-March 1903, completed unfinished business and transferred the records of the Military Government of Cuba to the Bureau of Insular Affairs.
Abolished: By transfer of sovereignty, May 20, 1902.
Successor Agencies: Republic of Cuba.
