Dear Assessment List Colleagues,
Below is information from Jeff Fantine re: a COABE PreConference on
Current Trends and Issues in Professional Development, hosted by AALPD
(www.aalpd.org <http://www.aalpd.org/> ). It's not just for professional
development professionals - but for anyone working or interested in PD.
We also have a roundtable session on using data to improve staff
performance, facilitated by your list moderator, Marie Cora. I hope you
will be able to join us.

Each year the Association of Adult Literacy Professional Developers
conducts a preconference at the Annual COABE Conference that addresses
current professional development issues, trends, needs and initiatives.
This year will be AALPD's 9th Annual Preconference: Current Trends and
Issues in Professional Development
Agenda Highlights:
* Building a PD System: Using Professional Development
Competencies
* Roundtable Discussions on High-Interest Professional
Development Topics including: Building a Personal Learning Network with
Web 2.0 Resources, Using Your Data to Improve Staff Performance,
Distance Learning Equals Practical Solutions for Professional
Development, How effective IS your presentation, really? (Are you a
slave to PowerPoint?)
* Updates: Legislative and National PD Initiatives
* WIA Recommendations and Advocating for Professional
Development
* Planning for the Future: Priorities in Professional
Development for AALPD
In addition to the preconference, AALPD is also sponsoring a
Professional Development Strand throughout the COABE Conference.
Thus, this conference will be a tremendous opportunity for adult
educators to become informed of current and cutting-edge practices and
initiatives in professional development.
I know travel budgets are tight these days; however, if possible, please
consider attending the COABE Conference AND the AALPD preconference.
For those already planning to attend the conference, but not yet signed
up for a preconference, it would be a matter of adding one additional
day to your travel AND you could share the valuable information that you
learn with others in your state. This is certainly a MUST ATTEND event
for those that handle professional development in your state. For more
on the COABE Conference visit: http://www.coabeconference.org/ or here
for the conference registration form:

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for
your attention and have a great day!
