Hi everyone,

Regarding the list from Charles, I'd like to add the Multiple Languages
section on medlineplus.gov. From the home page, you'll see the link on
the lower left which takes you to the entire list of materials in 40
languages. In order for a resource to be included, there must be an
English version as part of the document. (Useful for health care
providers, librarians and others who are providing information and need
to know what the information says in the target language.) The
selection of materials is limited at this point, but more will be added
over time as more materials become available that meet the inclusion
criteria. If multilingual materials exist for a specific health topic,
the languages will be shown in a special box on the right side of the
Health Topic page. (12 languages are listed on the Asthma page, for
example).

The list is provided without reading level designations, but even so,
some of the English versions may be plain language materials. However,
it will be difficult if not impossible to know the reading level of the
foreign language material.

For Spanish language materials in general, the MedlinePlus en espanol
site continues to grow. It now contains more than 700 health topics and
is quite robust. Use the espanol toggle button on any page or go
directly to medlineplus.gov/Spanish.

Subject: [HealthLiteracy 2321] Health information in multiple languages

In an e-mail to the Discussion List a few days ago, I listed several
websites for basic health information in mulitple languages. I stumbled
upon this listing at the

National Network of Libraries of Medicine; how many of the listings are
in everyday language I cannot say.
