Hi Priscilla,

You asked about community partnerships between literacy and medical programs. There are many stellar examples. Matter of fact, my "In other words..." column in On Call magazine this month highlights community partnerships of two NIFL-Health-ers: Jan Potter and Julie McKinney (our moderator). And later this summer, there will be another article featuring the collaboration between a literacy program and medical school.

You can find this article as well as many others at both the On Call website http://www.boston.com/jobs/healthcare/oncall/ and my Health Literacy Consulting website at www.healthliteracy.com.

There are many interesting examples of community collaboration at the Events page of the Health Literacy Month website, www.healthliteracymonth.org

Good work happens when we work together,
~Helen

Subject: [HealthLiteracy 2085] adult literacy

Hi Everyone,

I'm a doctoral student who is developing a passionate interest in health literacy. My concentration has been in reading, and I would like to see the literacy community become even more involved with research in health literacy. I'm finding that knowledge of this particular type of literacy is lacking in my field.

I'm working on a manuscript and would like your ideas about the viable and practical implications for adult literacy centers? Specific suggestions about resources, partnerships with the medical community, and curricular resources would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
