I'm not sure how many "states" have awards for health literacy, but IHA's award is open to all: "Anyone working in the field of health literacy is eligible for an award. You may nominate another person for an award or you may nominate yourself."
The 2008 awards have already been decided, but the application forms are still on their web site. You can check out the eligibility criteria and perhaps start planning to submit an award nomination for next year. They have contact information on their website, so if you're interested, it might be a good idea to contact them directly and ask for more information about their award program.

Health Literacy Colleagues,
Here's an article that may be of interest. It begins:
"For its groundbreaking development of a guidebook for seniors and
people with disabilities who have Medi-Cal, UC Berkeleys Health
Research for Action received the Institute for Healthcare
Advancements outstanding achievement in health literacy award for
published materials."
I wonder if other states have awards like this. Recognizing and
rewarding clear writtten health information might encourage other
organizations to make plain language a higher priority.
