Here's an article that may be of interest. It begins:

"For its groundbreaking development of a guidebook for seniors and  
people with disabilities who have Medi-Cal, UC Berkeley’s Health  
Research for Action received the Institute for Healthcare  
Advancement’s outstanding achievement in health literacy award for  
published materials."

I wonder if other states have awards like this. Recognizing and  
rewarding clear writtten health information might encourage other  
organizations to make plain language a higher priority.
