Here is a resource for health care workers that you can hand over when
frustrated or follow up and send later, and encourage them to read for other
clients who may struggle to understand printed material and then have
compliance issues. It was created by Charles Moody of Literacy Partners of
Manitoba, and is available at:
http://www.plainlanguage.mb.literacy.ca/resource.htm entitled Handy Guide
for Health Practitioners about Low Literacy. There are other documents there
as well, such as a Clear Doc Index for reviewing of their materials. Charles
is a fantastic workshop leader who has done outreach to health educators for
the past 3 years. He is at plain words.ca if you are interested. Great
Aussie guy.

Dr. Linda Shohet of the Centre for Literacy in Quebec does workshops "What
if they don't understand" with health care providers. Her centre of
excellence has produced incredible materials, an annotated bibliography and
critical review of plain language and health literacy resources to help you
grasp the magnitude of this issue. She is at lshohet (at)
dawsoncollege.qc.ca

Hope these leads help!
