Hoyer Statement on Budget Hearing on Defense Plans
WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the House Budget Committee held a hearing on defense budget plans over the long-term:
“I want to commend Chairman John Spratt for today’s hearing on the status of defense budget plans for 2010 and future years. Democrats are committed to ensuring our military has the equipment and tools it needs to keep our nation and our troops safe, while also ensuring that taxpayer money is spent efficiently and effectively.
“As our nation works immediately to confront a deep recession, we must also address the record deficits and debt left behind by President Bush. This will require careful review and tough choices across the board, and today’s hearing was an important first step as we begin to examine every part of our nation’s budget. I look forward to working with Chairman Spratt and other Congressional leaders on this issue in the months to come.”
