DEMOCRATIC WHIP HOYER STATEMENT ON INITIATION OF INVESTIGATION INTO REPRESENTATIVE NICK SMITH ALLEGATIONS

WASHINGTON – House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer released the following statement this evening in response to an announcement by the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct that it was initiating an Investigative Subcommittee into allegations raised by Representative Nick Smith (R-MI) regarding the Medicare vote last Fall:

“I was pleased to learn that the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct voted earlier today to initiate an Investigative Subcommittee on the allegations raised and repeated by Congressman Nick Smith related to the Medicare Prescription Drug vote last year.

“I believe that this is an appropriate and necessary action and the only way that the House can remove the cloud of suspicion that hangs over this matter to this day.  I am hopeful that the Investigative Subcommittee will thoroughly and vigorously investigate this matter and that all those who may be involved will cooperate fully.”
