Andrea,

There is also a systematic review of studies looking at the relationship
between literacy and health outcomes. It is available as an Evidence
Report/Technology Assessment from the Agency for Healthcare Research and
Quality (AHRQ) and can be downloaded in full text as a PDF file at:
http://www.ahrq.gov/downloads/pub/evidence/pdf/literacy/literacy.pdf
<http://www.ahrq.gov/downloads/pub/evidence/pdf/literacy/literacy.pdf>

This may also be helpful.

In addition to the report by the IOM, the American Medical Association
Foundation has a very easy to follow and understand manual that can be
downloaded as a PDF file at
www.ama-assn.org/ama1/pub/upload/mm/367/healthlitclinicians.pdf
<http://www.ama-assn.org/ama1/pub/upload/mm/367/healthlitclinicians.pdf> .
The Ask Me 3 website, www.askme3 <http://www.askme3> also has some good
information on it. These reports, manuals and websites pretty much get their
information from the same published literature.

Hope this helps.

there is a book put out by the Institute of medicine that looks at the
relation between literacy and health. It also reviews the medical
literature on the topic in a chapter:
A Prescription to End Confusion is the name.

HOpe this helps, Shalini Forbis

Colleagues,

Does anyone have figures, an article, about any relationship between health
and literacy level in the United States?

Thanks,

Andrea
